Now, years out from Emma and Pat’s wedding, and continuing to document their love story, it feels fitting to revisit their beautiful engagement session at Birds Eye Cove Farm. This stunning location in Duncan, BC, isn’t just where they’ll say “I do”—it’s also where we captured some of their first official memories as an engaged couple. And what better place to take engagement photos than at the venue that already holds so much meaning?
Emma and Pat are the perfect mix of calm and playful, and their wedding day about a year after this engagement session accurately reflected that! Year after year, I get to capture their biggest milestones. From their wedding, to their maternity and newborn sessions for both of their sons, this is where it all started!
Nestled between lush green mountains in the heart of the Cowichan Valley, Birds Eye Cove is a dream location for any couple looking for a rustic yet elegant vibe. It’s one of those rare places where every corner is photo-worthy, from the open fields and wooden fences to the cozy barns and charming orchards.
During our session, we explored a variety of spaces across the farm:
The winding trails lined with tall grass
A picturesque orchard, where sunlight filtered through the trees
Open fields with curious Highland cattle peeking over the fences
And yes—the cows absolutely stole the show!
These iconic Highland cows (straight out of a Scottish postcard) were especially meaningful for Emma, who has a deep love for Scotland. They followed us along the fence line, completely intrigued by our photo session. One of them even… passed some gas mid-photo, which had us all laughing uncontrollably. It was honestly the perfect reminder of why I love engagement sessions—they’re fun, real, and full of personality.
Birds Eye Cove Farm isn’t just beautiful—it’s brimming with character and charm. In addition to the Highland cattle, you’ll find a resident Vietnamese pig, chickens wandering the property, and serene waterfront views just a short walk away. It’s a working farm with a boutique, luxury feel.
Whether you’re planning a rustic barn wedding, looking for an unforgettable engagement session location, or simply want to visit a unique spot on Vancouver Island, this farm offers a little something for everyone.
Your engagement session is more than just pretty photos. It’s a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, bond with your photographer, and get excited about your upcoming wedding day.
I get to learn what makes you laugh, what poses feel natural, and what little prompts bring out your real smiles. It’s also when you get to tell me all the juicy wedding details—and Emma and Pat definitely delivered! Their wedding day is shaping up to be just as magical as their session.
Birds Eye Cove Farm can host up to 125 guests, making it perfect for intimate weddings that still want to celebrate big.
The property spans a stunning 300 acres of farmland, forest, and mountain views—plenty of space to explore, photograph, and fall in love with.
The romantic suite for newlyweds or couples staying onsite is 900 square feet of cozy comfort and rustic elegance.
Birds Eye Cove Farm is located in Duncan, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island. It’s about an hour’s drive north of Victoria and offers easy access to the beauty of the Cowichan Valley.
If you’re considering having your engagement photos—or even your wedding—at Birds Eye Cove Farm, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s one of the most unique venues on Vancouver Island, and every time I shoot there, I find something new to love.
