Luis contacted me about planning a surprise proposal. He had been planning to propose to his girlfriend Courtney during their trip to Banff earlier this year in March. He chose to pop the question on top of Sulphur Mountain after taking the Banff Gondola up to the top. The views were absolutely breath taking. Who thinks that Luis nailed it with the location?
Courtney had no clue what was about to happen. The day before, during dinner, she actually teased Luis for STILL not putting a ring on it. Little did she know…
I booked it to the look out point, feeling like the Michelin man in all of my layers (It was about -20 degrees that day), but thankfully Courtney was taking her time. Proposals are always funny that way. As the proposer, you’re completely at the whim of your proposee’s timeline, even though you have a very strict schedule you’re trying to stick to! Some couples are ready very early, and some take their sweet time! Good thing I always arrive early, but it is always a breath of relief when I get a text saying “We’re running a few minutes behind”. It gives me a chance to get in the zone and really blend in!
Once they arrived, he got down on one knee and popped the question. Courtney freaked out, in the best of ways! I was so stealthy, that she thanked me for getting some photos of the proposal and asked how I could get them to her! That was when Luis and I explained that he had arranged for me to be there and capture the moment for them.
